Question

Can I share SDRAM address/data bus with Parallel Flash device bus and what are limitations?

Answer

It is possible to share SDRAM address and data bus with Parallel Flash device but to achieve this, additional member from logicBRICKSTM IP family is required – logiFLASH IP core. Also, this option is avaliable only for SDR SDRAM device and asynchrounous parallel FLASH device. Both devices must be electrically compatible - same IOB standard must be used for both devices. The logiFLASH is NOR Flash controller that can be connected on various system interfaces. The logiFLASH supports parallel, asynchronous type of flash devices with following data widths: 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit. Additionally, if the same FLASH NOR device is used also for FPGA configuration it builds very compact system storage solution. It is efficient regarding space, number of flash devices and number of used FPGA IO pins.
